#ClimateWeek
I have been so inspired to see all the hype around #climatestrike and #climateweek this year! And all this talk about the state of our environment has got me thinking. I often this about this actually, and it is so overwhelming. The problems seem so huge…can what I do really make a difference? But Greta Thunberg is proof that it can! What we ALL do counts. Do politicians need to take urgent action? Absolutely.Do companies need to think differently and place a value on the environment instead of only focusing on money? Absolutely. But what can we do? Can what I do make a difference? And what is the environmental cost…

The ultimate packing list
What to pack when you have no idea where you’re going or when you’ll be back… Honestly – this can be really tough! How do you fit your entire life into a backpack? And how can you make sure you have everything you need for all those unknown experiences you’re so excited to have? News flash. You can’t. You will actually have to get comfortable with the fact that you cannot be prepared for every eventuality. But that’s ok, because you don’t need to be and with the list below, you’ll have all the important bases covered and perhaps even some room to spare for a few purchases along the…

Minca – discover Colombia’s hidden gem
In a country exploding in tourism, Minca is a hidden gem. It is still only visited by a small portion of tourists visiting Colombia every year. Tucked away in the mountains in the north of the country about an hour from Santa Marta, Minca is easily accessible and beginning to gain international recognition as a beautiful place to visit in Colombia. My advice? Get here before this becomes a regular on people’s vacation itineraries! Minca is a beautiful, peaceful town set nestled in the mountains in northern Colombia. Minca is still relatively new to the backpacker trail so if you want to get off the beaten track, you can do…

Voluntourism… Why you should consider it
Working for free while on holiday? Not exactly everyone’s idea of a good time. But there are some surprising compelling reasons to consider this as part of your next trip: giving back, making friends and experiencing life as the locals do are just the tip of the iceberg. I completed my third volunteering experience just last week, so I feel compelled to share some of this experience here. Each of the volunteering experiences I’ve had have been completely different. They were all wonderful in their own ways and also challenging for different reasons. The one thing they have in common is the sense of joy being a part of something…

Sarajevo..why you need to go
A photo memory popped up on my phone the other day, informing me that it was a year ago that I was in Sarajevo. The memories came flooding back and honestly, I need to tell the world how amazing this city really is. After a couple of months exploring the ruggedly beautiful Italian and Croatian coastlines (read more about that here), honestly I struggled to tear myself away from the water..but I am so glad I did. My next stop was Sarajevo, Bosnia. I had absolutely no idea what to expect, but it is safe to say this city and it’s people blew me away. I hope that this inspires…

Day dreaming of Italy? Check out Polignano a Mare…
Imagine all the best things that come to mind when someone says Italy… The language, the people, the irreverence and sense of joy overflowing from it’s lively inhabitants…and of course the food! All these things and more, you will find in Polignano a Mare. For these reasons it remains one of my absolute favourite places in the world. A small walled city dating back to Roman times, Polignano a Mare is perched on a cliff on the heel of Italy’s beautiful boot and boasts perhaps the most picturesque tiny pebbled beach in the region. This little town is a mecca for Italian tourists in the hot summer months, but is…

The Beginning
Hi, my name’s Kate and this is my travel blog. I left home over 15 months ago with a one-way ticket, lots of ideas and no plan. I’ve always loved travel, but life and work seemed to get in the way.Honestly – I’ve never looked back. This was hands down the best life decision I’ve ever made. So, after a lot of deliberation I’ve decided to set up this site, share some of my stories and hopefully inspire you to take a leap of faith. Maybe the leap won’t be into an aeroplane with a one-way ticket to the other side of the world, or maybe it will, but here…
